Our Christian Values
At Thurlow Church of England (VC) Primary School we are building on the foundation of our Christian values we work together to provide our children with an environment and mindset for learning that develops confident, independent, caring and well behaved children who fulfil their academic potential.
Laying the foundations for a bright future
Thurlow Church of England (VC) Primary School is a delightful village school 4 miles from Haverhill, 9 miles from Newmarket and 22 miles from Cambridge. Our school currently has 109 pupils on roll. At present, we serve the villages of Great Thurlow and Little Thurlow, Great Bradley and Little Bradley, Barsey Grove, Cowlinge, Great Wratting, Hanchett End Lane and Withersfield. We also have some families who live outside our immediate catchment area who choose to travel so their children can attend our school.
Our school is a happy, caring and vibrant school for children from 4-11 years, Nursery children ages 2-4 are welcome if funded. We have four well-equipped classrooms, each with their own Interactive Whiteboards and accessible laptops and Ipads available to enhance learning. The school is set in large leafy grounds with a heated swimming pool, large play area, enclosed pond and wildlife area, Early Years Foundation Stage [EYFS] outdoor classroom [they have an indoor one as well!] and extensive grassed areas. The school provides wrap-around care through our Breakfast and After School Club (BASC) provision.
Beyond the school’s boundaries are the fields, roads, pathways and river of Little and Great Thurlow villages each with their own churches. We regularly visit Little Thurlow Church and hold Easter and Christmas services there. Frequent visits into the immediate neighbourhood as well as further afield, enrich and enliven our curriculum.
All our children learn French each week and we can facilitate instrumental tuition for pupils in guitar and violin. We have a wide variety of clubs both during and after the school day such as Football, Tennis, Gardening, Homework Club, Art and Craft and Lego.
We expect and achieve the highest standards from our children. This is what Ofsted said about our school when they visited for a short inspection in November 2017:-
"This is a good school."
"It is a calm and purposeful place to learn."
The leadership team has maintained the good quality of education in the school since the previous inspection."
"Pupils behave exceptionally well and have very good attitudes to learning."
"Pupils feel safe in school and know how to keep themselves safe in a variety of situations, including when online."
